Today, I went to see Scottish Ballet's: "Carmen" and "Lying, Cheating, Stealing" - I thought it was just amazing!

On the whole I liked Page's 'Lying, Cheating, Stealing' the most. The choreography, sets and whole production were fantastic! Carmen, was also very good and the story was told very well through the choreography. I was however, slightly disappointed as I very much wanted to see Daniel Davidson as Don Jose, but still Adam Blyde gave an exhilarating performance.

I am very much looking forward to the Autumn Season 2009 with 'Rubies' 'WorkWithinWork' and 'In Light & Shadow' and also the the EIF, especially seeing Petrushka.

What do you all think about "Carmen" and "Lying, Cheating, Stealing" ?

I saw the Spring Tour last night in Glasgow and loved it.  Unlike the previous correspondent I preferred Carmen to Cheating Lying Stealing.  Carmen had everything.  Colourful costumes, great lighting and set, energy, emotion and humour.  At 50 minutes I was left wanting more.  The cast, with Martina and Daniel in the lead roles was superb.  I know that they are more junior dancers, but at Scottish Ballet the strength in depth the company has means that does not matter.  The dancing - and acting - was to a very high standard and I can't wait to see it again in Edinburgh next week.

Whilst I enjoyed Cheating Lying Stealing I found it harder to get into.  The dancing was superb and the energy in the two female lead performances was unbelievable.  Even the set got in on the act with a spot of movement and action.  I did get the themes but suspect that if I see it a few more times I will follow things better.  Ashley's pieces often have so much going on it is difficult to take everything in first time round.  You can still get a lot from them seeing them just the once.

I really like this season. The pieces are so different, and while I'm not sure they totally go together, it's great to see two really different pieces. I love the music in Carmen, and I think Daniel Davidson and Martina Forioso are just amazing together - love the very end when the bright red light goes out and Carmen sees Don Jose standing there.

I'm not sure about the music in Cheating, Lying, Stealing, but the dancing amazing and the effects are great. I like that the curtain at the back moves up and the band are behind it. It's such a sexy piece, and Sophie Martin and Claire Robertson are brilliant as always.

I went to see these two amazing performances last night.  Claire Robertson was dancing the part of Carmen and she is just amazing.  Although L,C,S jarred after C as it was so different I really enjoyed to contrast and found myself appreciating the energy and the dancing more so than when following a storyline.

I am going back tomorrow night and look forward to seeing it from a different angle and hopefully being able to add to what I saw last night.  There is often so much going on that you cannot take it all in through one viewing so I love seeing it over and over!
