Does Scottish Ballet have a special place in your heart? Do you have fond memories of a favourite performance or dancer?

We're looking for funny or touching stories about Scottish Ballet to include in our time capsule, which we are burying deep in the building work of our new home at Tramway - post your entries here!

I remember watching a little girl dance in the hidden gardens while her family picknicked nearby. The weather was amazing and after a series of pirouettes she asked those nearby for a money, much to her parents shock. We chipped in a few coppers which she thanked us for, courtseyed and then quickly threw them in the water. She said she made a wish, that one day she could be a real ballerina!

When I was a pupil at a small highland secondary school we had a visit from the outreach team. For most it was a good excuse to skip classes but for me,as a dancer, it was a chance to meet some heros.

So you can imagine my delight when not only Jim Hastie and Sally Collard-Gentle came but Peter Darrell Turned up too!

I had a wonderfull afternoon and even got to dance with Jim!

We talked for ages afterwards and they inspired and persuaded me to take the plunge and audition to study dance myself (I went on to study at the Laban Centre).

I would just like to thank the 3 of them for many thousands of hours pleasure I have had peforming since then and thank the whole company over the years for some of the most wonderfull performances in the world.

1986, '87?  20 years ago.  261 West Princes Street and Spring Season at the Theatre Royal when it was managed by David Jackson, Neville Casey, Anne Henderson......

As a member of the press office (Chris Reece-Bowen, Judy....and after us Jim Fletcher), I set up a photocall with one of the company's ballerinas (sorry, don't remember her name but I can see her face) on behalf of the Daily Record.  A bit of a coup really, since the Record traditionally were interested in other images on page 3.

Building work was going on nearby the theatre..may even have been for the new RSAMD.  Thanks to the foresight of the ballerina concerned we got a great shot of the dancer flanked by with two builders in fluorescent waistcoats and hard hats, supporting her as she held arabesque. It was a great shot. Darrell saw the humour and the potential. But I do remember having my knuckles wrapped for the indignity of it all.  Really good times.

I wonder, does the blue Scottish Ballet bag still hang on a rope from the top landing of 261, to the ground floor, used to transport mail down to reception?  Twas I who put it there ...way back.

Wishing you all the best in this next stage of the journey....and if anyone can fill in the gaps in my memory, that'd be grand!

Fi

Hi Fi

Thanks for your post (and Hobbes and Suzy B!), and yes, the blue bag is still here! It is still a talking point for when people visit our HQ, including the architect who is working on our new home at the Tramway - he thought it was brilliant!
