Hello - I was wondering if anyone out there had any good advice for someone looking to get involved in backstage theatre work?  I know this isn't directly Scottish Ballet related, but as a child I regularly came to watch Scottish Ballet performances in Glasgow with my mum and aunt.  The memories stayed with me, and fed a continued interest in dance theatre over the years.  I am moving back to Scotland in the near future and am looking for a complete change in career, perhaps with a view to doing a degree course in arts/theatre studies - I am very interested in wardrobe/costume design, but I know that finding employment will be very, very difficult.

Does anyone out there have experience of theatre work, be it professional or voluntary, who might have a few pointers (work/courses/training) for someone starting out completely from scratch?  I intend to try and gain some experience for a year before committing to a full-time course.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Jude

Hi again Jude,

Our technical team suggests that you contact the RSAMD about their courses, or get in touch with theatres directly and ask about doing some casual show work.

All the best!
